No Roof Pole = No load

There are still too many instances of Drivers who think it is ok to arrive at a site without a roof pole even when the sliding roof is to be opened.

By doing this, they are demonstrating Unsafe behaviour before they’ve even begun as to be able to open the roof without a roof pole means using unsuitable equipment or having to climb up sides of trailers.

Drivers arriving at site without a roof pole are showing a disregard for the safe way to open and close a roof. Traffic operators and haulier managers must check that their drivers are correctly equipped for the job they are asked to do.

Say No, Ask to Restow…

Accompanying this bulletin is a slide encouraging Drivers to say No if they are not happy with how their load has been configured.

This is fully supported by P&O and Tata – a Driver must be

happy with the way the load is configured and placed on the trailer both in terms of load security and weight distribution.

Exclusion Zones

Exclusion Zones across Tata have been in place since Jan 2010 and have been an enormous success.

It is worth re-iterating how these work and reminding Drivers that they must stay in the Exclusion Zone during loading.

Scunthorpe Rod Mill Booking In Process

We are receiving a few instances recently of Drivers arriving at the Rod Mill in Scunthorpe to drop empty trailers and collect loaded trailers without either first booking in to say they are on site or leaving site without booking out.

It is vital that Drivers adhere to the Booking in and Booking Out procedure as site staff need to know who is on site at any time.

Please re-iterate to your Drivers that they must Book In and Out!

Winter Weather Load Restraint

Be aware that with immediate effect, Tata are implementing the new Winter Weather Load Restraint guidance.

Although in the main, this is for the Home trade, there will be extra precautions taken for Export loads also so Drivers must be aware that extra straps and anti slip matting will be required for some products.

Details will be cascaded in the next few days.

Driver Training

During October, we conducted a Training session at a Traction Provider’s premises on a Saturday morning. 18 Drivers attended the session. Many thanks to John at BSB Transport for hosting the session and arranging for all his Drivers to be present.

If you are interested in arranging a Driver Training session, please email Tatasafety@pofm.com.
